inconsistency (noun) contradictory.
There is an inconsistency between your words and deeds if you say one thing and do quite another. There is an inconsistency in your words, if on one occasion you praise someone and immediately after that you criticize them for the same thing. Your behavior towards a person shows inconsistency if one moment you are friendly with them and the next moment cold towards them.
- There is inconsistency in the government’s foreign policy. In one breath it says we must have friendly relations with the other country, and in another, it says it is suspicious of the other country’s designs.
- The witness in the fist instance claimed he had known the deceased very well, but later changed it and said that he had known him for just a month before his death. The judge pointed out this inconsistency in the witness and declined to accept his evidence.
