The formation of a hard layer of dust and dirt on a surface, over a period, because of natural processes, is incrustation. The layer or the crust so formed is incrustation.
- The incrustation on the iron cover of the tank made it insulated against electricity. The worker on removing the incrustation received a shock as a live wire was in contact with it.
