indices (noun) (plural of index) indicators; pointers; signs by which something can be judged.

Indices are indicators of things or indicators guiding us to information about something. Indicators are signs by which we can judge something. For example, the grades of a student in their exams are the indices of their knowledge of the subject and their mental ability, that is, indicators of their knowledge of the subject and also of their intellect.

  • The quickness of his understanding and his ability to analyze things soundly are indices of his intelligence.
  • The professorís ability to make things clear and easily understood, and his command over his subject, is indices of his mental caliber.
