ineffectual (adj) weak; incapable of achievement.

An ineffectual leader is a weak leader; they cannot achieve what they want to, or bring about the changes that people expect them to. They cannot put into action effectively their plans or ideas. An ineffectual attempt is an unsuccessful attempt, causing failure.

  • He is not going to be their leader for long. His ineffectual handling of things has landed them in trouble. Soon there will be a demand for his replacement by a capable person.
  • Jeffrey has ambitions to be a great writer, but unfortunately his writings so far have been very ineffectual and have failed to impress the readers. It is doubtful if he can ever become a great writer.
