ingenuous (adj) honest; trusting and innocent.

Ingenuous persons are honest and trusting. They are innocent and are unworldly. An ingenuous person can be deceived easily because they easily believe whatever others say. If a person thinks that all politicians are there to serve people selflessly, they are ingenuous, that is, innocent.

  • Only an ingenuous person would believe that trust always begets trust, that is, if we trust others, they will trust us and transactions will be honest. What innocent people do not know is, more often than not, trusting others only encourages them to cheat.
  • It is ingenuous to suppose that a candidate gets elected to a public office by virtue of their honesty and integrity, but unlike what innocent people believe, people have their own considerations other than honesty to vote a candidate.
