inimitable (adj) matchless; unequalled.

When a person’s performance or greatness cannot be imitated with the same effect, the person is inimitable. Shakespeare was inimitable as a dramatist; that is, no one else can write as great plays as he, even if they copy him. It is Impossible to copy or imitate him. A player’s style of play is inimitable, if no one can copy them and play as well as they. The inimitable Michael Jackson means that he has own style of dancing which others find impossible to copy with the same effect.

  • Gregory Peck’s performance in the movie, ’Death Sails A Pale Horse,’ is inimitable. It is highly doubtful if any other actor could act so well the role of a young fugitive soldier longing to rejoin his sickly mother.
  • None could equal John Keats in his painting of word pictures for which his poetry is famous. His style in this respect is inimitable.
