injurious (adj) causing injury; loss or damage.

Smoking is injurious to health, that is, it is harmful to our health. Too much of alcohol is injurious to the liver; that is, taking too much of alcohol damages the liver. Corruption is injurious to the functioning of a government. This means that a government cannot function well, if the people in it are corrupt.

  • Excess of eating without proper exercise is injurious to health. Overeating and a lack of exercise cause fat to accumulate in the body. That leads to serious heart diseases.
  • A lack of financial discipline is injurious to the economic development of a country. Unless the revenue and the expenditure of the government are properly planned, the country will have economic problems.
