inopportune (adj) happening at the wrong time; not suitable or good time.

An inopportune moment is not the suitable occasion for something to be done or to happen. You visit a person at an importune moment when you visit them at a time not convenient for them. If a person starts a business at an inopportune moment, the time is not suitable for the business; the business is likely to fail. An inopportune remark is a remark made at the wrong moment, and is likely to have bad results.

  • Eddy chose a very inopportune moment to visit his cousin. She was preparing for an exam and had no time to spend with him.
  • The salesgirl approached Emma at the most inopportune moment. Emma had just had another salesman trying to sell her the same product as this girl was trying to sell.
