inordinate (adj) excessive.

Inordinate delay is excessive delay; delay that is far more than normal or expected. Inordinate time or money is far longer time or far more money than is normal. Inordinate greed is excessive greed.

  • There was an inordinate delay in the completion of the dam, mainly because of insufficient funds and also because of the two cyclones. The project could be completed two years behind schedule.
  • It took an inordinate amount of money to get the factory functioning again, after the hurricane had destroyed it almost completely. Almost the entire plant and machinery had to replaced, and that naturally cost a lot.
