insensible (adj) unable to feel or react; unaware; unconscious.

You are insensible if you do not feel something or react to it. You are insensible to cold or pain if you do not feel the cold or the pain. You are insensible to other’ suffering if you do not sympathize with them. You are unfeeling if you are insensible. If you are not aware of a situation or do not know what could happen to you, you are insensible of it. If you do not know and cannot understand what could happen to you, you are insensible. If as a result of an injury or illness, you become unconscious, you are insensible.

  • Soldiers on the war front, because of their frequent exposure to the sights of death grow insensible to sorrow or suffering. They do not feel sad when soldiers by them drop dead.
  • Insensible of the hunger and starvation of his subjects, the monarch was reveling with his courtiers in his palace. All that he cared about was his pleasures. He did not bother what happened to the people.
