insouciant (adj) indifferent.

When you are insouciant you are indifferent; you do not appear worried or caring about anything. Your unworried or uncaring attitude is your insouciant attitude. “His smile in the face of difficulties showed his insouciant attitude.” This means that in spite of his difficulties, he did not seem to be worried.

  • The principal remained insouciant to the poor performance of his students. It was clear he did not understand the seriousness of the situation. If it continues, the reputation of the college will be affected, and the enrollment is bound to fall.
  • Her cheerful smile only showed her insouciant attitude to her health. She did not appear to care what happened to her health.
