insubordination (noun) disobedience (of people of higher ranks).

A person of a lower rank disobeying a superior official is insubordination. A clerk shows insubordination if they disobey their officer. Insubordination is an act of indiscipline. Going against the orders of a superior is insubordination. If a captain disobeys a colonel, it is insubordination.

  • Because he refused to carry out the orders of his superior officer, he was demoted for his insubordination and transferred to a distant place.
  • Because the officer was too strict and punished the employees overmuch even for minor insubordination, they all rebelled against him and want on a strike.
