inundate (verb) submerge; overwhelm.

When flood waters inundate an area they submerge the area; that is, they cover the area with water. If the crop in an area is inundated, it is covered with a large quantity of water, and it is totally damaged. If you receive so many things at the same time that you cannot deal with all of them, they inundate you. If you have too much of work to do in too little time, you are inundated with work. If something keeps you too busy, it inundates you.

  • The recent cyclone caused floods to the river and the flood waters have inundated the surrounding areas. A number of houses are under water now.
