inveigh (verb) criticize a person or a thing harshly.

When you inveigh against a person you criticize them strongly; you denounce them. You inveigh against a system if you find nothing to appreciate in it. In the days of the Cold War, the US and the USSR used inveigh against each other's policies. That is, they used to criticize or condemn each other's policies strongly and harshly.

  • The opposition leader inveighed against the government's taxation policy as anti-poor and pro-rich and urged upon the voters to throw the government out.
  • Even the slightest opportunity was enough for him to inveigh against the administration of his company. He would talk about how he would manage the company affairs better if he were the manager.
