invert (verb) turn upside down or inside out.
When, for example, you put water in a glass and invert it, you turn it upside down, resulting in the glass being emptied of the water. If you wear a coat normally, it is a raincoat, and if you invert it, it may become a pullover. The doctor inverts a just-born baby and gives it a pat on the back, when they hold the baby by its feet upside down.
- He practices the yoga, and one of the postures requires the body to be inverted. In doing it he supports his body on the head with his legs straight upward.
