irresolute (adj) wavering; indecisive.

A person is irresolute if they are unable to decide what to do in a situation. An irresolute person wavers and cannot make up his mind, whether to do something or not to do it. They are incapable of firm decisions. Those who are irresolute are uncertain about what they should do.

  • Hamlet in Shakespeare's play is ruined because of his irresolute nature. Until it is too late he is unable to decide whether or not to kill his uncle who has murdered his father and usurped the kingdom and married his mother.
  • An irresolute person can never be a great leader. Those who cannot decide can achieve nothing.
