A kindred soul/spirit is the common way of referring to someone who is similar to you in tastes, attitudes, etc. A man may find a kindred soul in a woman and vice versa in which case they might fall in love with each other and marry, because of their similar tastes and attitudes. “I found a kindred spirit in my cousin.” This means that I found a person who has similar tastes as I have.
- Pierre Curie found a kindred soul in Madame Curie before their marriage. They found they had similar interests in the matter of scientific research and fell in love with each other.
- The two were gamblers, in addition to being first cousins. No surprise, then, each found in the other a kindred spirit.
