lambaste (verb) criticize strongly.

You lambaste a person when you criticize them very strongly and bitterly, that too in public. 'The opposition lambasted the government for its wrong policies.' This means that the opposition strongly criticized the government for all its wrong policies.

  • The sports' body lambasted the government for its meager allotment of funds for the development of sports in the country. It strongly criticized the government for not offering any incentive to sportspersons.
  • During the election campaign the candidate lambasted the preceding senator for not being active at all during her tenure and for neglecting the interests of her constituency.
