lampoon (verb) ridicule.

Cartoons lampoon prominent persons; that is, they ridicule public figures, especially politicians, and make them seem laughable and stupid. When you lampoon a practice, you ridicule it to make it appear stupid. Articles or writings lampoon a person or a thing if they make fun of them.

  • The movie lampoons the mediocrity of some of the leaders in the ruling party. It pokes fun at their lack of understanding of proper governance and their inability to lead the country.
  • The 18th century writers of English literature used satire to lampoon their enemies. Their writings made their enemies look ridiculous and stupid.
