lancet (noun) a sharp surgical implement.

A small double-edged knife with a sharp point used by surgeons to cut skin and flesh is a lancet. A doctor without a lancet is like a soldier without the gun; it is so essential a part of a doctor's equipment.

  • The incision the doctor made in the skin on the arm using a lancet did not cause any pain to the patient, as that area has been anesthetized.
  • The patient being a diabetic, the bleeding from the cut made by the surgeon's lancet took a little more time than normal to stop.
