lax (adj) not strict or exact.
To be lax is to be careless. When a person is lax in their duty they are careless about their work or duty. Lax discipline is lack of proper discipline. Lax safety measures are not safe enough. You are lax in your attitude to duty, if you do not take your duty seriously. Lax muscles are not firm and tend to hang loosely.
- The security guard was lax in duty and so the burglars were able to enter the bank and hold up the customers and the staff.
- The lax discipline in the company led to the staff being indifferent to their work and the company sustaining severe losses. If only the management had enforced strict discipline among the workers, matters would not have reached this stage.
