When you are leery about a person, you are suspicious about him; you do not trust him; so you avoid him. You are leery about a certain food if you doubt its quality and its effect on you health and avoid it. To be leery is to be wary and cautious about something. You are leery about certain places if you doubt they may not be safe for you and avoid them.
- Old people are leery about any thing that is new. They think twice before using them, because they feel that old things they are used to are good, and suspect that new things may not be safe.
- Having found out that he has lied to me more than once, I am leery about him. I would rather not trust him. I feel it safe.
