legerdemain (noun) (old fashioned word, not much in use now) skilful use of hands while performing tricks of magic.

No magician can perform tricks successfully unless he has legerdemain, that is, sleight of hand. Tricks can be performed by a magician only by very quick and clever movements of his hands. This is legerdemain.

  • The magicianís wonderful tricks, especially those he performed with the quick movements of his hands, were impressive. His legerdemain drew the applause of all.
  • The magician is a poor imitation of his father who was really great. The son does not have the fatherís legerdemain.
