machiavellian (adj) crafty; cunning; deceitful.

A person is Machiavellian if they use clever and immoral plans to get what they want. Machiavellian plans are mostly evil plans for achieving what we want. Machiavellian tactics are cunning tactics and deceitful methods. Members of the royal families of the past resorted to Machiavellian tactics to secure the throne.

  • All his Machiavellian plans to be elected president failed, because he had a very bad record as a corrupt politician. All his scheming and plotting led him nowhere.
  • The other members on the board of the company could not understand his Machiavellian tactics. They just believed him to be honest. Only later did they come to know that he was good at cunning plans, which helped him to dominate them.
