The machinations of politicians are their secret, complicated, and often evil plans. Wicked, clever, and secret plans are machinations. Very often the villains in movies and plays are shown as indulging in machinations, that is, wicked, secret, and clever plans to ruin the hero and the heroine. In real life also we do come across people who make secret and clever plans for their selfish purposes and for the ruin of others. Such evil, clever, and secret plans are machinations.
