magnanimity (noun) kind, generous, and forgiving.

A person of magnanimity is generous, kind, and forgiving. They are generous even to those who they need not be generous to; for example, to their enemies, or, even to someone who they have reason to dislike. A gesture of magnanimity is also an act of kindness. Magnanimity of a person is seen too in the liberal donations they make to help the poor or the society. Great donors to public causes have magnanimity.

  • Henry had the magnanimity to spare the life of his enemy when he had a very good reason and opportunity to kill him.
  • He had the magnanimity to accept his defeat humbly and praise the better talent and the better game of his opponent. His magnanimity made possible the starting of a charity home for the children rendered orphans during World War II.
