magniloquent (adj) (outdated and rarely used) pompous.

A magniloquent speech is a speech in a pompous language. Magniloquent style makes use of bombast. High sounding words and lengthy sentences mark a magniloquent piece of writing or speech.

  • The author thought that his magniloquent language would impress his readers. Instead, the pompous style tired them and turned them away from the book.
  • The magniloquent speech of the politician made him the laughing stock of the audiences. His bombast tired the audiences who left the place in the middle of the speech.
