manifesto (noun) (Of a political party or a group of people) statement of policies and programs.

A paper which explains the principles and policies of a political party and states what the party will do for the people and the country if it is elected is a manifesto. Manifestos are issued by all political parties before and during an election. A manifesto in other words is an agenda.

  • The manifesto of the ruling party sets forth its ideas and ideology and states what it will do if it is returned to power again. One of the important programs in the manifesto is eradication of poverty from the land in the next five years and certain social welfare schemes, for the benefit of the poor and the old.
  • The most important program of the party as stated in its manifesto before the elections was free primary education for all school going children, and the party has failed to implement even that.
