meteoric (adj) happening suddenly and quickly; connected with meteors.

A person's meteoric success is their sudden, unexpected, and quick success. A person's rise to fame is meteoric if they become famous suddenly and quickly. A person's career is meteoric if they achieve success very quickly. Anything connected with a meteor is meteoric. A meteoric shower is the fall of a cluster of meteorites to the earth.

  • The Roman conqueror Julius Caesar's meteoric rise to fame and popularity stirred the envy of Cassius. He could not tolerate Caesar rising to fame so quickly, so he plotted the death of Caesar.
  • His success was by no means meteoric. He came up the hard way, slowly but steadily, and it took rather long for him to attain this level of success.
