When you have a misapprehension of something, you understand it wrongly. Your misapprehension of something is your wrong idea of it. If you believe something to be true, when it is not true or correct, you are under a misapprehension. When you think wrongly that someone is friendly towards you, when actually they are unfriendly, you are under the misapprehension that they are your friends.
- They were under the misapprehension that all the classes were canceled for the day, while all that the teacher meant was that they would have no classes in the forenoon.
- He repeated his instruction to his son for fear that there might be some misapprehension. He made it clear to his son that he was to spend not more than a thousand dollars, by which he meant that he need not spend even a thousand dollars.
