When you mock someone you ridicule them. You laugh at them and make them look stupid by making jokes at them or unkind remarks. You mock someone if you laugh at them in an unkind manner by imitating them. You mock people if you show no respect for them.

  • Jeremy's mocking the poverty of his neighbors was in a very bad taste. Very often he would make cruel jokes at them, and ridicules their cheap possessions.
  • Harry was indeed a bright student, but he mocked the low achievers among his classmates, by making fun of their low scores and their inability to grasp things quickly.
