A modicum of truth is a small amount of truth. A modicum of respect for elders is a little respect for elders. So is a modicum of common sense is a small quantity of common sense.

  • I am really shocked that a young boy his age, educated in a good school, does not show a modicum of respect for elders. He wouldn't even stand up when he sees elders coming in.
  • There is no modicum of truth in the press reports that he has used his official position to unduly favor his son-in-law, the minister declared. He dismissed the whole report as being totally false.
