parity (noun) equality.

Parity in position is equality between two persons in status, pay, treatment, etc.. Parity between the two sexes is equality between the two sexes in the matter of pay, status, importance and treatment. 'There is as yet no parity between men and women in wages in most countries.'

  • The ground staff of many airline companies is demanding parity in pay with the plane crews. Their demand for equality is thought unfair as the plane crew's jobs involve a lot of risk.
  • In most underdeveloped countries, there is as yet no parity of wages between men workers and women workers. In spite of the equal work turned out by men and women, women are still paid less than men.
