You are pedantic if you are bookish, that is, if you go strictly by the rule of the book. You are pedantic if you are too scholarly in your language, and care more about the form than about communication. You are pedantic if you give more importance to rules and details, and do not care about the result. You are more worried about the method than about the result.

  • He is pedantic. As long as you follow rules, he does not bother whether you achieve results or not.
  • The pedantic way he insists on detail is very tiring. He can never overlook any omission of even a minor point in the narration.
