pendent (adj) hanging down from something.

A pendent is a lamp hanging down from the roof or from a projection from some point in a wall. A pendent jewel hangs down from the neck, or some part of the body.

  • The pendent lamp inside the church threw bright light around. It hung down from the roof, and the point from which it hung was concealed in the false roofing.
  • The pendent candelabra hanging from the roof of the hall was beautifully designed, and when lit, it filled the hall with brilliance.
