perforate (verb) make a hole or holes through something.
When you perforate something like paper, for example, you make a hole or holes in it. When something is perforated, a hole is made in it. When because of an explosion, a hole is formed in the eardrum, it is perforated. Tuberculosis may perforate the lungs. That is, because of tuberculosis a hole may be formed in the lungs. A sheet of paper is perforated if a line or lines of holes are made in it.
