perfunctory (adj) (of an action) done because it has to be done and not with real interest.
When you do something in a perfunctory manner, you do it because you have to do it and not out of real interest. A perfunctory job is a job done in haste, and without proper attention. A perfunctory smile is a smile that lacks feeling and is only formal. Persons who do things because they have to do it, but without real interest are perfunctory.
- They made the arrangements in a perfunctory manner. The invitees were put to a lot of trouble because of the haste and inattention with which they were made.
- The teacher is very perfunctory. As her interest lies in software, teaching is only a stopgap job for her, and she does not care how she teaches, or even what she teaches.
