permeable (adj) (of a material) allowing liquids or gases to pass through.

Material that is permeable allows gases or liquids to pass through it. The skin of amphibians, that is, of animals like frogs is permeable to water. That is, it allows water to pass through it. Human skin is permeable to sweat. That is, our skin allows sweat to pass through or out of it.

  • Though the boy's school bag fell in water, the books were not wet, because the bag, made of waterproof material, was not permeable to water.
  • The permeable rock by the riverside has small pores on it and allows the river water washing it to pass through it.
