pert (adj) disrespectful (in an amusing and cheerful manner).

When you are pert, you are a little disrespectful, in an amusing manner. In British English pert is used specially about girls or women who are amusing in an impudent manner. In American English it means impudent or disrespectful.

  • When the elderly boss entered, she gave him one of her pert smiles. It was evident that she didn't care to give him the respect his age deserved.
  • Her pert and jovial spirit was resented by all those who knew her. She was a bit impudent undoubtedly, but she liked a bit of humor too.
