perverse (adj) behaving in a way that is thought wrong by most people.

A person is perverse if they behave in a very unreasonable manner. To be or to do deliberately the opposite of what most others want is to be perverse. Doing the wrong thing just for the pleasure of it, just because you are told not to do it, is being perverse.

  • The perverse child tore the newspaper just as the father was telling not to do it. It often does deliberately what its father wants it to avoid. We do not know what pleasure the child finds in it.
  • He finds a perverse pleasure in embarrassing others. Just when everything is going on smoothly, he says something which embarrasses others.
