petulant (adj) bad-tempered for no reason.

When you are petulant, you are bad-tempered, that is, angry for the only reason that you cannot do what you want. A child is petulant when it is denied what it wants. A person is petulant, if they get very angry because they cannot have their way. When you are impatient with those who oppose you, you are petulant.

  • He wanted to speak, and when denied the opportunity, he became very petulant, and left the place in a huff. None could control his anger.
  • He was petulant because his party did not nominate him as a candidate for the election. He was in a rage and refused to cooperate.
