phlegmatic (adj) calm and not easily disturbed.

If you are phlegmatic you remain calm and undisturbed even when there is provocation. You are not easily upset if you are phlegmatic. Phlegmatic persons do not show any expression on their faces; they are not usually excited or worried even when there are reasons for them to be excited or worried.

  • His phlegmatic face showed no feeling. We were unable to understand whether he was happy about our proposal, or disapproved it.
  • His brother's phlegmatic nature contrasts with his nervous and agitated nature. While he is upset even by small things, his brother remains calm in the face of even serious troubles.
