piebald (adj) (of an animal) having patches of two colors, usually black and white on its skin.

A piebald horse is a horse with large patches of two colors, usually black and white, on its skin. A pig is piebald if its skin has patches of two different colors, usually, white and black. So is a dog piebald which has a skin of black and white patches.

  • Charlie had betted on the piebald horse in the race, because of his superstitious belief that the white and black combination of the horse's skin would bring luck. Unfortunately, however, it finished third.
  • Only one of the foals of the mare is piebald, surprisingly. Its elders are all pure brown.
