pithy (adj) (of a statement, comment, etc.,) short and clear.

A pithy comment is a short but clear comment, full of meaning and strongly expressed. A pithy statement conveys a lot of meaning in a few words. No word is wasted. A pithy observation is a brief and highly meaningful observation.

  • I came, I saw, I conquered. This was the pithy report of Julius Caesar to the Roman Senate of his achievement in his campaign. This short statement of his expressed clearly his victory.
  • Those who write a pithy style never waste words. Not a word can be removed in their writing without affecting the meaning. Oliver Goldsmith, the famous writer of the 18th century wrote such prose.
