pittance (noun) too little money (paid as a wage.)

If a person gets a pittance as a salary, they get a very low amount as salary. If someone pays a pittance they pay an unfairly little amount. If a person works for a pittance, they work for a very low wage.

  • Compared with the work you turn out what you get is a pittance. You had better be jobless than work for such a low salary.
  • All that the company could get as profit was a mere pittance just 1% on its investments. This may prompt the closure of the company.
