plagiarize (verb) copy another personís ideas and words, and claim them as oneís own.

You plagiarize if you copy someoneís ideas and words and claim them as your own. If in writing a book, or making a speech you borrow ideas and words of others and pass off them as your own, you are plagiarizing. Plagiarizing is just copying and claiming as your own what you have copied. It is stealing othersí ideas and words.

  • The Ph.D. degree conferred on him was withdrawn when the university found that he had plagiarized extensively from an earlier thesis on the same subject. Nearly 40% of the matter was copied from the other thesis.
  • Most of the speakerís ideas of his talk were plagiarized from a book my friend had written last year. They were exact reproduction of the ideas in the book.
