A preamble is an introductory statement explaining what a book, document, talk, etc., are about. It states the purpose too of the book, document, etc. For example, the constitution of a country has a preamble, in which the objectives, purpose, etc., of the constitution are stated. A speech or a lecture may also have a preamble in which the speaker or the lecturer may explain briefly what the speech or lecture is about.
