A precipitous mountain is a dangerously high or steep mountain. The precipitous slope of a mountain is its dangerously steep or high slope. A precipitous fall is a steep fall. A precipitous drop in profits is a sudden and great fall in profits. A steep fall of a person or an object is a fall down a great height.

  • The mountaineer felt that he was at the top of the world as he stood on the precipitous cliff of the mountain. It was a real feat for him to have reached the top of the dangerously steep cliff in a record time.
  • The precipitous decline in exports gave the directors of the company sleepless nights. The sudden and great fall in the exports meant losses amounting to billions of dollars.
