A prolific writer produces a large number of books. Shakespeare was a prolific writer of plays because he wrote as many as thirty six plays. So is a prolific painter is a painter who produces many works of art. A prolific plant produces abundant fruit. A prolific scorer in games and sports is one who can score a large number of runs, goals or points. Prolific bacteria produce a large number more of themselves.

  • Sachin Tendulkar is a prolific scorer in cricket. He holds the world record for the most centuries both in test matches and one day matches, and also for the most number of runs. There is a wide gap between him and the next scorer.
  • The prolific river is able to supply abundant water for crops on either bank along its coast. The areas served by its waters are very fertile and the people there are prosperous.
