prolixity (noun) verbosity.

Prolixity in writing is using too many words conveying too little sense and is therefore boring. Prolixity is wordiness. Using more words than are necessary to convey an idea is prolixity. It bores the listeners or the readers.

  • He could not succeed as a writer or as a speaker mainly because of his prolixity. His readers and listeners feel bored because of the unnecessary words he uses.
  • Prolixity in style of writing or speech is a defect. The use of too many words certainly bores the readers or the listeners and turns them away from the writing or the speech.
